Nuts are used in conjunction with a mating bolt to fasten parts together. They are held together by a combination of thread friction, a slight expansion of the bolt, and the compression of torque applied to the two seperate pieces. If being used in an application with vibration, a locking mechanism such as lock washers, thread-locking fluid, or lock-wire is advised. Nuts are designed to meet a variety of applications and technical standards in the aerospace industry. Some other types of nuts include wel nuts, wing nuts, square nuts, and t-nuts.
